Equipment

  • Cooling Rack
  • Parchment Paper or Silicone Baking Mats
  • Baking Sheets
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Cookie Scoop or Tablespoon
  • Baking Sheets

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or your favorite mix-ins like M&M’s or white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts optional

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.

Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3: Cream the Butter & Sugars

  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using a hand or stand mixer. Beat until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4: Add Eggs & Vanilla

  • Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Mix until fully combined.

Step 5: Combine Dry Ingredients & Wet Ingredients

  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 6: Stir in Chocolate Chips & Nuts

  • Using a spatula, fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Step 7: Scoop & Shape the Dough

  • Scoop out the dough using a cookie scoop or tablespoon and place them onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Step 8: Bake the Cookies

  • Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers should still look slightly soft and underbaked.

Step 9: Cool the Cookies

  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
