Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper or a silicone baking mat
  • Small bowl (for egg wash)
  • Pastry brush
  • Knife or spatula

Ingredients

  • 4 large croissant pastries store-bought or homemade
  • 8 slices of deli ham thinly sliced
  • 8 slices of cheese Swiss, cheddar, or Gruyère work best
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard optional, for extra flavor
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise optional, for a creamier texture
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon water to mix with the egg
  • Fresh parsley chopped, for garnish - optional

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat to prevent sticking.

Step 2: Prepare the Croissants

  • Slice each croissant in half lengthwise but don’t cut all the way through. You want it to open like a sandwich.
  • Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard and/or mayonnaise (if using) on the inside of the croissant.

Step 3: Add Ham and Cheese

  • Place two slices of ham and two slices of cheese inside each croissant. Layer them for even distribution.
  • Close the croissant gently without squishing it.

Step 4: Make the Egg Wash

  • In a small bowl, whisk the egg with 1 tablespoon of water. Use a pastry brush to lightly coat the tops of the croissants with the egg wash. This will give them a shiny, golden finish.

Step 5: Bake the Croissants

  • Place the croissants on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 18–20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the croissants are golden brown.

Step 6: Garnish and Serve

  • Remove the croissants from the oven and let them cool slightly. Sprinkle chopped parsley on top for garnish if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Tips:

  • For extra flavor, add a slice of tomato or a few spinach leaves inside the croissant.
  • You can swap ham for turkey or chicken if preferred.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5–7 minutes.
