Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed Ensure butter is super cold for the best flakiness.
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold water

Filling

  • 1 cup chocolate chips You can experiment with dark, milk, or white chocolate.
  • 1 each egg For egg wash.

Preparation

  • In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
  • Cut in the chilled butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually add cold water until the dough comes together.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Rolling and Shaping

  • Roll out the dough and fold it to create layers.
  • Roll it out again and cut into triangles.
  • Place chocolate chips on each triangle and roll them up to form croissants.
  • Allow to rise for 30 minutes.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Brush with egg wash.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

These chocolate croissants are great served warm with coffee or tea. Dust with powdered sugar for an extra touch. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days, or freeze for up to a month.
