  • 2 cups heavy cream Make sure it's chilled for a smoother texture.
  • 1 cup whole milk Ensure it's chilled.
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar Fully dissolve in the mixture.
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder For a richer flavor, dark cocoa can be used.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds flavor depth.

Optional Mix-ins

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips Add in the last few minutes of churning, if desired.

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract until the sugar and cocoa are fully dissolved.

Churning

  • Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • If desired, add chocolate chips in the last few minutes of churning.

Freezing

  • Transfer the ice cream to a container and freeze until firm, about 4 hours.

Notes

Store the ice cream in an airtight container in the freezer. Press plastic wrap against the surface before sealing to prevent ice crystals.
