Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's at room temperature.
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk Or milk + 1 tbsp vinegar.

Chocolate Mixture

  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Use high-quality for better flavor.
  • 0.5 cup hot water
  • 0.25 cup sugar (optional) For added sweetness.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a bundt or loaf pan.
  • In one bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Alternate adding the dry mixture and buttermilk into the batter, starting and ending with the flour mixture.

Chocolate Mixture

  • Mix cocoa powder with hot water until smooth. Optionally add sugar for sweetness.
  • Combine one and a half cups of the vanilla batter with the chocolate mixture.

Baking

  • Pour half of the vanilla batter into the prepared pan. Spoon in chocolate batter, and layer with remaining vanilla batter. Use a knife to create swirls.
  • Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Optional: Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle melted chocolate over the cooled cake.

Notes

Store cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, in the fridge for a week, or freeze for up to 3 months. Consider decorating with seasonal toppings for special occasions.
