  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 10 oz marshmallows or 4 cups mini marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • to taste Sprinkles for decoration
  • to taste Optional: food coloring for festive colors

Preparation

  • In a large pot, melt the butter over low heat.
  • Once melted, add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the Rice Krispies cereal until well coated.
  • Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then grease your hands with butter and form the mixture into balls.
  • Roll the balls in sprinkles for decoration.
  • Let them cool completely before serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature. For longer storage, wrap individually in plastic wrap and freeze for up to 2 months; thaw at room temperature before eating. Use low heat when melting marshmallows to prevent burning. Grease your hands or use a lightly buttered scoop to shape balls without them sticking. If you like softer treats, add 1 tablespoon extra butter or use slightly fewer cereal cups.
