Ingredients

Bar Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

Glaze Ingredients

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup of butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add 2 eggs, one at a time, and mix until fully incorporated.
  • Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of baking powder to the wet ingredients. Mix until just combined; don’t overmix.
  • In a small bowl, combine 3/4 cup of brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon to prepare the filling.

Baking

  • Spread half of the dough into the prepared pan.
  • Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the dough.
  • Gently spread the remaining dough on top—it’s okay if it’s a bit uneven.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let the bars cool completely before glazing.

Glazing

  • To make the glaze, beat together 4 ounces of cream cheese, 2 tablespoons of butter, 1 cup of powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth.
  • Spread the glaze generously over the cooled bars.
  • Slice and serve.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or refrigerated for up to a week.
