Batter Ingredients

  • 1 large large egg
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ¼ cup honey Can be substituted with maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided Use for batter and topping

Topping

  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar For topping

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment.
  • In a bowl, whisk melted butter and brown sugar together.
  • Add the egg, honey, and vanilla extract. Whisk until everything is well combined.
  • Stir in the flour, salt, and ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  • Mix the granulated sugar with the remaining ½ teaspoon of cinnamon and sprinkle it over the batter.

Baking

  • Bake for 22–25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. Excellent with vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce.
