  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 Tablespoon melted butter
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • cups buttermilk (room temperature)

Streusel Topping Ingredients

  • 3 Tablespoons softened butter
  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup butter, cubed
  • teaspoon salt

Drizzle Topping Ingredients

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • teaspoons milk

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. If desired, line a 9 by 9-inch baking dish with parchment paper for easy removal later, and grease it.
  • In a large bowl, mix all the dry ingredients together.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter, egg, and buttermilk.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  • Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared dish.

Streusel Filling and Assembly

  • Prepare the streusel filling, crumb topping, and drizzle topping to add layers of flavor.

Notes

Make sure all your ingredients are at room temperature for the best results. Do not overmix the batter to keep the cake light and fluffy. Variations include adding fresh fruit like blueberries or sliced apples to the batter.
