Deconstructed Chocolate Easter Egg

Ingredients
  

For the Custard

  • 3 cans sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 cups milk
  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¼ cup milk (for dissolving cornstarch)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional) Adds flavor

For Assembling

  • 2 cartons heavy cream
  • 2 cups melted semi-sweet chocolate
  • ½ cup chopped unsalted peanuts For topping
  • 2 cups chopped milk chocolate For topping

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a saucepan, combine sweetened condensed milk, 3 cups of milk, and 6 egg yolks.
  • Dissolve 2 tablespoons of cornstarch in ¼ cup milk and add to the saucepan. Stir continuously over medium heat until the mixture thickens.
  • Add vanilla extract (optional) and mix well. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  • Add 2 cartons of heavy cream to the cooled mixture and mix until smooth.
  • Reserve one-third of the cream to use as the white layer.
  • To the remaining cream, add 2 cups of melted semi-sweet chocolate and mix until fully combined.

Assembly

  • In a serving dish, spread half of the chocolate cream and place it in the freezer for 15 minutes.
  • Add the reserved white cream over the chilled chocolate layer.
  • Sprinkle ½ cup of chopped unsalted peanuts on top.
  • Cover with the remaining chocolate cream.
  • Melt 2 cups of chopped milk chocolate in the microwave for 1 minute. Spread evenly over the top of the dessert and allow it to set.

Notes

Keep refrigerated or frozen until ready to serve. Store covered to prevent ice crystals. Best enjoyed within a few days for optimal texture.
