Ingredients
  

Meats

  • 1 lb Ground Beef Use lean for less fat.
  • 0.5 lb Ground Sausage A bit of spice adds flavor.

Vegetables

  • 1 medium Onion, chopped
  • 2 ribs Celery, chopped
  • 1 Bell Pepper, chopped Green for tradition, any color works.

Rice and Liquids

  • 3 cups Cooked Rice Day-old is best.
  • 1 cup Chicken Broth For moistening the dish.

Spices

  • 1 tsp Cayenne Pepper Adjust to taste.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Chop the onion, celery, and bell pepper.
  • Cook the ground beef and sausage in a large pan until browned and crispy.
  • Add the chopped vegetables to the meat and cook together for about 5 minutes.

Cooking

  • Stir in the cooked rice, mixing well to incorporate the browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  • Add cayenne pepper, black pepper, garlic powder, and other optional seasonings to taste.
  • If the mixture appears too dry, add chicken broth to moisten.
  • Let the rice mixture cook on low heat for a few minutes, allowing flavors to meld.

Notes

Use day-old rice for better texture. Feel free to substitute proteins and spices based on availability and preference. Dirty rice is versatile and can be made vegetarian with mushrooms and vegetable broth.
