Ingredients

For the Bread:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast 2 ¼ tsp
  • 1 cup warm water 110°F
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 large egg

For the Cinnamon Sugar Filling:

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

  • Start by dissolving the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, softened butter, and egg. Mix everything together until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and allow it to rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1 ½ hours, or until it doubles in size.

Roll Out the Dough:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle, about ½ inch thick.

Add the Cinnamon Sugar Filling:

  • Brush the melted butter over the dough, ensuring it’s evenly spread.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle this cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the buttered dough.

Shape the Bread:

  • Carefully roll up the dough into a tight log, starting from the long edge of the rectangle.
  • Slice the log into even portions, about 1 ½ inches wide, and arrange them in a greased baking pan. You can stack the slices slightly to fit more in the pan, but make sure they’re not too tight.
  • Cover the pan and let the dough rise again for about 30 minutes.

Bake the Cinnamon Bread:

  • Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown on top.
  • Once baked, remove the pan from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes.

Prepare the Glaze:

  • While the bread is cooling, make the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Glaze the Bread:

  • Drizzle the glaze generously over the warm cinnamon bread. Let the glaze set for a few minutes before serving.
