  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee or hot water

For the Chocolate Ganache

  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 cup heavy cream

For the Decoration

  • 2 cups whipped cream or Chantilly cream
  • Chocolate curls or chocolate shavings
  • Fresh strawberries
  • Maraschino cherries
  • Chocolate decorations (optional)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a square or round cake pan.
  • In a large bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  • Slowly pour in the hot coffee or hot water while mixing. The batter will be thin, which helps create a moist cake.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool completely before decorating.

Making the Ganache

  • Heat the heavy cream until it begins to steam (do not boil).
  • Pour it over chopped chocolate and let it sit for 2-3 minutes, then whisk until smooth and glossy.
  • Allow the ganache to cool slightly until it thickens.

Assembling the Cake

  • Place the cooled cake on a serving board or cake stand.
  • Spread or pour the ganache evenly over the top of the cake, allowing it to create a smooth glossy surface.

Decorating the Cake

  • Using a piping bag, pipe whipped cream rosettes around the edges of the cake.
  • Place maraschino cherries on top of each rosette.
  • Cover the sides of the cake with chocolate curls or shavings for that bakery-style texture.
  • In the center, arrange fresh strawberries and decorative chocolate pieces to create a beautiful focal point.

Notes

For a professional look, use a star piping tip for the whipped cream border, press chocolate curls gently into the sides, and keep decorations symmetrical. Chill the cake for 20 minutes before serving to set the ganache.
