  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, sliced Slice evenly for consistent cooking.
  • 4 rolls hoagie rolls Open wide and toast briefly if thick.
  • 8 slices provolone cheese Can swap for mozzarella or American.
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil For cooking the onions and beef.

Preparation

  • In a skillet, heat a little olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced onions and sauté until they’re soft and slightly caramelized, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart as it cooks. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven's broiler.
  • Place the hoagie rolls on a baking sheet and fill each with the ground beef mixture.
  • Top each filled roll with two slices of provolone cheese.
  • Broil the sandwiches in the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Best served hot from the broiler. Offer pickles, hot peppers or condiments as desired. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
