Equipment

  • Baking sheet or grill
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Brush for glazing (optional)
  • Aluminum foil (for baking)

Ingredients

  • 4 salmon fillets about 6 oz each, skin on or off depending on preference
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce low sodium recommended
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger optional, for added flavor

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Marinade

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, sriracha, soy sauce, lime juice, minced garlic, and grated ginger (if using). Taste the mixture and adjust the spice level by adding more honey for sweetness or sriracha for extra heat.

Step 2: Marinate the Salmon

  • Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or a ziplock bag. Drizzle the marinade over the salmon, ensuring each fillet is evenly coated. Let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes, but no more than 30 minutes to avoid over-marinating.

Tip: If you're short on time, you can brush the marinade on the salmon without marinating for as long, but the flavor may not be as intense.

    Step 3: Cook the Salmon

      Oven-Baked Method:

      • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
      • Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and lightly coat it with olive oil.Place the marinated salmon fillets on the sheet, skin side down.
      • Bake for 12-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillets. The salmon should appear opaque and easily flake apart with a fork.

      Grilled Method:

      • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
      • Lightly oil the grill grates to prevent sticking.
      • Grill the salmon fillets for 4-6 minutes per side, brushing with extra marinade during the cooking process. The salmon should have nice grill marks and be cooked through.

      Pan-Searing Method:

      • Warm 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
      • Sear the salmon for 4-5 minutes on each side, depending on thickness. Baste the salmon with the marinade for extra flavor as it cooks.

      Step 4: Make the Glaze

      • While the salmon is cooking, pour the leftover marinade into a small saucepan and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. Allow it to cook for a few minutes until it thickens into a glaze. Be sure to stir occasionally to prevent burning.

      Step 5: Serve and Garnish

      • Once the salmon is cooked, drizzle the reduced glaze over the fillets. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds for an extra touch. Serve with a lime wedge for a burst of freshness.
