  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened) Make sure your butter is fully softened for easier mixing.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar You can substitute some granulated sugar with brown sugar for a richer flavor.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tablespoon red food coloring Add more for a deeper red color if desired.
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour To make safe to eat, heat-treat the flour by baking it.
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips You can customize by adding different types of chocolate chips.

Preparation

  • Heat Treat the Flour: Spread the flour on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 5 minutes. Let it cool before using.
  • Make the Cookie Dough: In a bowl, mix together the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Stir until smooth.
  • Add in the heat-treated flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Mix well until a dough forms.
  • Fold in the mini chocolate chips.

Serving

  • Enjoy this cookie dough straight from the bowl, or serve in small cups at a party. For an added touch, top with whipped cream or serve with fresh strawberries or pretzels for dipping.

Notes

Store any leftover cookie dough in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. It can also be frozen for up to a month if scooped into balls and stored in a freezer-safe bag.
