Ingredients

For the crust

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted 2 sticks
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour

For the filling

  • 3 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples about 3 medium apples
  • 0.5 cup salted caramel sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper for easy removal.
  • In a large bowl, mix the melted butter, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt together until smooth.
  • Add the flour and stir until the mixture is crumbly. Press about two-thirds of this mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to make the crust.
  • In another bowl, toss the sliced apples with cinnamon and nutmeg. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust in the pan.
  • Drizzle the salted caramel sauce over the apples for a sweet touch. Crumble the remaining flour mixture over the top.
  • Bake the bars for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  • Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares.

Notes

These bars can be served warm or at room temperature and are great on their own or topped with ice cream or whipped cream. A drizzle of extra salted caramel enhances the flavor!
