  • 2 pounds beef chuck roast Also works with flank steak or brisket.
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce Can substitute with tamari for a gluten-free option.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sesame oil Can substitute with olive oil.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 medium green onions, sliced For garnish
  • as needed none sesame seeds, for garnish
  • as needed none cooked rice, for serving Best served over rice.

Preparation

  • In a slow cooker, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and black pepper.
  • Add the beef chuck roast, ensuring it is well coated with the sauce.

Cooking

  • Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4 hours, until the beef is tender.
  • Once cooked, shred the beef with two forks and stir it back into the sauce.

Serving

  • Serve the beef over cooked rice, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

To enhance flavor, marinate the beef in the sauce for a few hours or overnight. Consider adding sliced carrots or bell peppers for extra taste. Leftover sauce can be used as a dipping sauce or over vegetables.
