  • 1 pound sausage (preferably Italian)
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 8 cups cubed bread (or stuffing mix) Stale bread works best.
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries or raisins (optional) Optional ingredient for added sweetness.
  • 1 tablespoon dried sage
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste Adjust according to preference.

Cooking

  • In the slow cooker, combine the sausage, onion, and celery. Cook on high for about 2 hours, breaking up the sausage until browned.
  • Add the cubed bread, chicken broth, cranberries, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper to the slow cooker. Mix well.
  • Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours, or until the stuffing is heated through and the bread is lightly toasted. Serve warm.

Notes

You can prepare this dish a day in advance. Just store in the refrigerator and cook the next day. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
